Character Studies

    These portraits do not necessarily flatter the subject in the generally accepted sense. Sometimes they are created to enhance the character lines or features that already exist. These are among my favorite type of portraiture because they allow me to experiment with lighting, posing, expressions and concepts that I otherwise might not pursue on a commercial portrait.

Each image is hand printed by Oscar Lozoya using fiber based, silver gelatin paper. Then it is mounted and matted using archival, museum rag board. The process uses all traditional methods, and is controlled by Oscar at each and every step. Because of the nature of hand printing, each image will have its own characteristics making it unique.
